This Field Human Resources Manager role is a key member of the Operations and HR team, leading HR initiatives, protocols, and policies within a defined operational territory. The position focuses on Talent Development and Onboarding, Retention, Leadership Skill Building, Workforce Planning, Compliance, and Associate Relations to positively impact the talent management system across all locations in the territory.

About the role

The role requires a proactive approach to ensure compliance in HR practices by providing consistency in the application and execution of enterprise-wide programs. The Field HR Manager will coach managers in executing policies and procedures accurately and fairly, working in a matrixed reporting relationship with both the Area HR Manager and Operations. This position involves up to 50% overnight travel by car and air, supporting up to 500 associates (exempt and non-exempt) across four locations: Atlanta, GA; Macedonia, OH; Le Vergne, TN; and Livonia, MI. The position is based in Lawrenceville, GA, with a requirement to maintain a regular weekly onsite HR presence at all local operations.

Responsibilities

  • Associate Experience, Engagement, and Retention: Lead local associate experience and retention efforts through enterprise programs, including new associate orientation, onboarding, global engagement surveys, and local appreciation/recognition events. Design solutions to address local retention challenges and support Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) efforts.
  • Workforce Planning and Talent Acquisition: Support the recruiting team in resolving requisition accuracy, approval chains, and manager responsiveness. Advise on local diverse recruiting sources and propose staffing levels based on growth trend analysis. Collaborate on leadership recruiting and participate in selection for critical roles. Assist in start-up activities for new business and transition through orientation and onboarding. Work with Compensation to determine appropriate compensation packages.
  • Associate and Leader Skill Development: Oversee associate performance and ensure development plans are in place. Support new leaders through critical HR processes and oversee the annual talent review and succession planning. Leverage Leadership Development tools to ensure appropriate functional training.
  • Training and Development: Communicate and reinforce management training on performance management, selection skills, safety, workplace violence, harassment, equal opportunity, wage and hour laws, diversity & inclusion, leadership, and other focus topics.
  • Associate & Labor Relations and Performance Management: Partner with HR, Legal, and Labor Representatives to conduct location assessments and coach management on policy interpretation and execution, including collective bargaining agreements. Investigate associate complaints and collaborate with relevant teams to resolve issues. Engage management in the performance management process using training tools, coaching, and corrective counseling.
  • Human Capital Analytics: Provide operations leaders with relevant HR metrics and analytics to guide business decisions, including turnover, retention, leave of absence (LOA), and exit interview data.
  • Compliance: Analyze associate data for accuracy, compensation parity (Equal Pay Act), FLSA compliance, and consistent application of Penske policies. Facilitate timely resolution of payroll issues and implement steps to prevent future occurrences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3+ years of experience in Staffing, Human Resources, or a related field; relevant experience will be considered.
  • Professional certification in SHRM or HRCI is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HR functions and employment law.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-sensitive environment.
  • Adaptable quick learner with the ability to quickly understand company systems and processes.
  • Up to 50% overnight travel required.
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, and work at the specified location.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
  • Frequently use hands to touch, handle, and feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs/12 kg.
