SUPERVISION

FUNCTIONS
- Prepares facilities for daily opening and closing
- Performs daily maintenance procedures and mechanical operations
- Cleans and inspects equipment
- Tests water samples if assigned to a facility with a pool
- Planner, organizes, and implements various facility programs
- Enforces facility policy and procedures
- Maintains supervision, general cleanliness, and security over assigned area or facility
- Ensures compliance with hygiene, health, safety and sanitation procedures
- Completes walk-throughs of all areas at regular intervals
- Reports and documents all accidents, injuries, and incidents
- Maintains appearance and overall environment of all facilities
- Notifies maintenance and custodial staff as needed
- Supervises patrons, the general public, facility members, and participants in sport programs, recreational activities, and other programs
- Communicates effectively with players, volunteers, coaches, spectators, facility members, and patrons
- Aids in various financial activities
- Assists in staff orientation
- Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings and training sessions
- Operates various equipment and city vehicles safely
- Responds to questions, comments, and complaints from the general public, patrons, facility members, and recreation program participants
- Fills in for other employees and subordinates as needed
- If assigned to aquatics, performs all essential functions and possesses the knowledge, skills, abilities, and certification of the Lifeguard position
- Participates in citywide events as needed
PURPOSE
Responsible for the supervision of their assigned areas that may include supervision of specific programs, the facility, specific processes, and part-time and seasonal staff.
Incumbent will also maintain supervision, general cleanliness, and security over their assigned area or facility.
An incumbent will be required to work varied hours during the week including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of and the ability to apply safety rules and precautions related to various recreational programs and activities
- Knowledge of and ability to model excellent customer service standards
- Ability to learn, apply and enforce city and department policies regarding facility memberships, recreation programs and activities, emergency situations, operation of recreation facilities, and general inquiries from the public and staff
- Ability to communicate and deal with the general public in a courteous and tactful manner
- Ability to accurately prepare and maintain various documents, records, reports and correspondence
- Ability to plan and organize a personal work schedule, set priorities and meet deadlines
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of appropriate communications, documents and transactions
- Ability to perform job duties efficiently while managing frequent interruptions and/or dealing with stressful or potentially hazardous situations
- Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in English
- Ability to establish good working relationship with public, subordinates, and supervisors
- Ability to maintain self-control and composure and set a professional example for the staff and participants
- Ability to maintain regular and dependable attendance on the job, including attendance and job performance for possibly prolonged periods of time when called out on short notice due to weather conditions, emergencies, and similar situations of public necessity.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSES
- A valid driver's license at the time of hire
- At least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of hire
- To obtain a CPR/AED and First Aid certification, within a time frame established by the employer
- To obtain a Nebraska Pool Operator certification and/or an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification within a time frame established by the employer
- To complete the State of Nebraska Responsible Beverage Service Training online course and/or ServSafe manager Training
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- Exposure to extremely sunny, rainy, hot, cold and humid conditions and other fluctuations in the weather
- Continual physical activity, including walking, standing, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, lifting, and carrying objects unassisted up to 50 lbs
- Frequent talking, listening, sitting, or standing for extended periods of time
- Use of hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects or controls
- Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate pieces of equipment
- Close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Noise level is usually moderate to high but may even be intense depending on the scheduled activity
- Extensive interaction with the general public and other community groups
- Stressful or potentially hazardous situations
