Field Hockey Coaches

Responsibilities

• Act as the Head Coach if the head coach is unavailable for practice and/or games.
• Develop a recruiting plan for the program, including travel to off-campus tournaments during the summer months to evaluate student athletes and create itineraries for on-campus visits for prospective student athletes and their family members.
• Assist the head coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
• Assess players’ skills, monitor players during competition and practice, and keep the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students.
• Maintain a record of team statistics and requirements for lettering (for both the head coach and athletic director).
• Work within the basic framework and philosophy of the head coach and assist with determining game strategy.
• Supervise athletes during practices and competition.
• Attend all staff meetings and carry out scouting assignments as outlined by the head coach.
• Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators.
• Arrive 15 minutes before practice and 60 minutes before contests and meetings to adequately prepare, and remain afterward to assist players or participate in staff discussions.
• Assist in the planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs, with consistent attendance.
• Avoid criticizing, admonishing, or arguing with the head coach or any staff member within earshot or view of players or parents.
• Remain at practices, games, or other contests until the last student has left.
• Perform other duties consistent with the nature of the position as requested by the head coach.

Requirements

• Successful completion of the NCAA certification exam.
• Commitment to compliance with NCAA, East Coast Conference, and Mercy College policies and regulations.
• Submission of all required requests/paperwork.
• Ability to effectively work with a diverse population of student athletes and coaches in a cultural climate that celebrates diversity.
