About the role

Intertek is seeking a Field Geologist/Engineer to join our Professional Services Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) team in the Columbus, OH office. This role offers a versatile career in the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry, focusing on construction assurance, testing, and inspection in civil and commercial construction.

Responsibilities

  • Provide representation in the field during geotechnical explorations of the subsurface.
  • Develop close, interpersonal relationships with clients, subcontractors, and PSI staff to execute work to project specifications.
  • Prepare subsurface exploration field drilling logs.
  • Maintain and leverage client relationships while developing new project opportunities.
  • Attend client site meetings and communicate effectively with project teams.
  • Perform on-site observations, sample collection, and specific field tests.
  • Work on one or multiple projects simultaneously, occasionally in both field and laboratory settings.
  • Coordinate field activities with the home office, including boring layout and utility clearance.
  • Oversee drilling and sampling operations to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Log samples and subsurface conditions.
  • Adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure personal and team safety.

Requirements

  • 2- or 4-year degree in Geology, Engineering (applicable field), Construction, or Earth Science from an accredited/ABET school or 1+ years of experience in geotechnical drilling operations and/or subsurface explorations (degree may be substituted with relevant experience).
  • Basic math, calculator, and computer skills.
  • Effective written, verbal, and listening communication skills, along with solid interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and understand work plans.
  • Willingness to work off-shift and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to travel 50-75% of the time as business needs dictate.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record.
