Field Engineering Technician

Serco supports the US IMCOM Army Child & Youth Services (CYS) Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) program, including equipment within the server rack. Our team upgrades, maintains, and provides support to Functional Technology Specialists (FTS), building directors, and staff on-site to enable them to perform their mission successfully.

About the role

As an Experienced Engineer Tech, you will work with a team to upgrade the video management system (VMS) at DoD facilities worldwide. This role offers the flexibility to live anywhere in the United States while traveling worldwide up to 90% of the time (up to four months at a time), with travel expenses covered and per diem provided. You will collaborate with a Mid-Level Engineer, Project Lead, and Project Engineer to support critical missions for the US Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM).

Responsibilities

• Support server hardware and software setup, installation, and configuration of the VMS on-site using documented standards and prescribed sequences.
• Conduct testing on the VMS and follow specific instructions to assemble, construct, or service simple equipment or parts.
• Ensure cable management, including terminating Cat 6 cables using the T568B color code standard.
• Verify electrical connections are properly connected, fixed, and secured.
• Analyze and resolve technical issues related to VMS endpoints.
• Perform close-out procedures, including service validation, test plans (with and without the customer), system acceptance with the customer, and documenting completed work with photos.
• Provide on-site training to customers on the VMS.
• Act as the primary liaison for customers at the garrison to ensure exceptional customer satisfaction.
• Ensure the project stays on schedule.
• Conduct administrative duties such as daily status reporting, timekeeping, and expense reporting according to policies and in a timely manner.
• Lead and direct the work of others, mentoring and providing direction to mid-level technician(s).
• Follow documented procedures to establish best practices for VMS setup, installation, and configuration.
• Gather and maintain records of engineering data (e.g., tests, drawings) and verify test data meets acceptance criteria.
• Adhere to safety standards and follow all OSHA and safety rules.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to travel up to 90% of the time, both CONUS and OCONUS (up to 4 months at a time).
• Ability to obtain a passport within 60 days of hire.
• Ability to receive a favorable determination from the National Agency Check (NACI).
• US citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain access to all military installations and a Common Access Card (CAC).
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or a High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in each of the following:
  • Technical and leadership experience.
  • VMS and/or working with server equipment.
  • Installing rack equipment, cable conveyance, and peripheral equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to server rack equipment.
  • Reading technical drawings.
  • Collaborating with engineering teams to provide technical solutions.
  • Testing, calibrating, and troubleshooting video management systems.
• Experience providing training to customers, mentoring junior technicians, and providing day-to-day direction to on-site teams.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with hardware and software for video management systems and network devices.
• Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and cable testers.
• Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, and Outlook required).
• Ability to perform basic administrative tasks (e.g., daily status reports, close-out documents, timekeeping, expense reporting) in a timely manner.
• Ability to work more than 40 hours per week and after normal duty hours based on customer requirements.
• Physical ability to:
  • Work in areas with drafts, loud noise, temperature variations/high heat, and confined (crawl) spaces.
  • Climb dry dock stairs/ladders and work in kneeling positions for cable runs under false decking.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds without assistance, with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 40 pounds for the majority of the shift while standing, crouching, or walking.
  • Work during inclement weather or other adverse conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Genetec software, including its various modules and functions.
• Experience pulling, dressing, and terminating cables using the T568B standard.
• Current OSHA certification.
• Current BICSI certification.
• Current US passport.
• Active DoD Secret Level Security Clearance.

Pay

The hourly amount for this position is listed at the top of the posting. This role is covered by the Service Contract Act, and pay will reflect the prevailing wage rate for the location where the employee is working, as determined by the Department of Labor and the Wage Determination (WD).
