Field Engineer I
About the Role
The Field Service Technician I provides field support to clients, including commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, or retrofit of mechanical and electrical systems. This position involves close collaboration with the Quality Department, Project Engineers, Project Managers, Process Engineers, client personnel, and other field staff. Responsibilities include monitoring Quality Assurance requirements, performing QC checks, compiling O&M information, and assisting in the compilation of IOM manuals. The role requires cross-training in controls and electrical systems and may involve extensive travel to domestic and international job sites.
Responsibilities
- Compile O&M information and transmit critical O&M details during project phases.
- Assist in compiling final sets of IOM manuals.
- Provide feedback from the field as an integral part of the role.
- Create legible “red-line” drawings for submission to the Project Manager.
- Arrange timely hand-off from the construction function.
- Direct field commissioning of projects.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment, including controls, communications, and computers.
- Provide documented commissioning of mechanical and electrical portions of projects.
- Maintain close interface with Field Engineers, Project Engineers, Project Managers, mechanical and electrical engineers, service technicians, and client personnel.
- Assist the Production Department in assembly or training of factory personnel.
- Support Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions, including performing or overseeing QC checks.
- Perform other responsibilities as designated.
Requirements
- 2 years of project field experience in construction support, startup, repair, and maintenance work.
- Experience verifying compliance with ASHRAE, ASME, and other relevant codes and practices.
- Ability to travel extensively to domestic and international job sites (80% travel).
- Ability to work in field construction conditions.
- Must have or be able to obtain applicable safety certifications, including OSHA 10 General Construction and NFPA-70E.
- Safe driving record.
Qualifications
- HVAC Trade school and/or apprenticeship training preferred; military training or technical work experience may be considered in lieu of certification.
Skills
- Ability to read drawings and schematics.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Office projects.
- Exposure to at least one brand of PLC or Building controls.
- Ability to work independently at job sites.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or negligible force frequently.
- Performs activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Visual acuity for color, depth perception, and field of vision necessary for data analysis, computer operation, and extensive reading.
- Subject to inside environmental conditions.
