Field Engineering Responsibilities

  • Oversee submitting changes to SoW.
    • Redlines shall be completed and submitted to engineering by Field Engineers.
    • Engineering will create an internal calendar to track tasks and deadlines.
    • Build-out is the most redlining-intensive phase, involving measurements, equipment placements, and grounding/bonding.
    • Field Engineers will verify that all infrastructure is installed according to design/spec, and finalize redlines if necessary.
  • Fiber:
    • An internal tracker will update the design given by IES customers to reflect past changes.
    • Field Engineers will verify the Fiber scope.
  • Copper:
    • The internal tracker for copper should provide all necessary information for close-out.
    • The Field Engineer will ensure all copper installations are to print and submit redlines for review if needed.
    • Verification of copper installations before close-out.
  • Network:
    • If redlining is needed, the Field Engineer will work with the team to configure details.
    • The Field Engineer will handle most of the redlining responsibilities if needed.
  • RFI referencing/implementation:
    • The Field Engineer will reference RFIs on redlines before sending for QA review.
  • Test Audits:
    • Field Engineers will run and verify tests after projects are complete.
    • They will verify cable schedules and build projects for easy access during the audit process.
    • Ensure testing projects match prints and make them available to the team.
    • Start running audits immediately after each post is completed.
    • Finalize audits once retests are completed.
  • Lessons Learned:
    • Teams will finalize/review standardized lessons learned templates at the end of each project.
    • The document will be filled with information from the lessons learned tracker.
  • Warranties:
    • Field Engineers will gather information to send for processing/completion.
    • A designated team member will send required documents for processing.
  • Product Submittals:
    • The Field Engineer will complete product submittals, starting with the RFP.
    • Verify the Bill of Materials (BOM) with POs and obtain product sheets.
  • Labels:
    • The Field Engineer will help print labels for installation teams.
    • All labels should be printed before installation to avoid delays.
  • RFI’s:
    • The Field Engineer can oversee RFIs before submission.
    • Conform and submit RFIs collaboratively.
    • Design-related feedback will be recorded as lessons learned.
  • Design (Shop Drawings):
    • The Field Engineer can oversee design work, including verifying areas of concern, reviewing designs in BIM360, and managing revisions.

  • High skill level in interpreting blueprints and project documents.

  • Manages multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to define projects, create scopes, and manage tasks to completion.

Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least 3-4 years of commercial low-voltage/structured cabling experience.
  • Works well with others.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Maintains company driving standards.
  • Manages multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to define projects, create scopes, and manage tasks to completion.
