Field Engineer I - Anaheim, CA

This is a field-based position covering customers throughout the Anaheim, CA area. The role includes a company car, gas card, cell phone, and laptop, with all vehicle maintenance covered by QuidelOrtho. Candidates must be able to personally attend to clients for in-person meetings on short notice, requiring reasonable geographical proximity to clients.

Responsibilities

• Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify electromechanical equipment, preferably in the field.
• Troubleshoot technical problems and systems issues.
• Determine technical solutions in accordance with product and customer specifications; recommend actions to company or customer representatives for coordinated product solutions.
• Conduct technical analysis of product implementations, modifications, and enhancements according to customer specifications.
• Assess customer needs and recommend solutions aligned with product specifications.
• Provide technical training and product briefings to customers, vendors, and company representatives as needed.
• Act as the local on-site representative to the customer’s organization.
• Manage all territory responsibilities, including preventive maintenance, upgrades (software and hardware), and service support in hospital/clinic laboratory environments.
• Handle individual parts management, online training, and administrative expense reporting.
• Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of an Associate's degree in Electronics or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent 4 years of military or field service experience.
• Minimum 4 years of experience installing, operating, maintaining, repairing, and modifying electromechanical equipment, preferably in the field.
• Self-motivated team player with the ability to interact appropriately with peers, sales counterparts, and customers.
• Strong organizational and communication skills (verbal and written) for individual or group situations.
• Technical knowledge in electro-mechanical, chemistry, computer, or related disciplines, with the ability to apply it effectively.
• Ability to manage assigned workload within time constraints.
• Must be able to lift 75 lbs.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Travel

• Ability to travel overnight 50-75% to Rochester, NY, during the first few months of training.
• Post-training, must be able to travel up to 75% around the territory, with occasional overnight travel (1-2 nights per week).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within the healthcare or medical device industry.

Work Environment

• Field-based role with typical work hours and overtime as required.
• Must have the discipline, organization, and self-motivation to work autonomously from a home office.
• Must own and maintain an automobile suitable for travel to customer sites, airports, etc.
• Travel includes airplanes, trains, and automobiles, with overnight stays.
• On a typical workday, 80% of time is spent meeting with people, and 20% on computer, paperwork, or phone tasks.

• Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, twist, reach, and sit.
• Occasionally required to reach, kneel, squat, or balance.
• Must be physically able to travel up to 75%.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000 and is bonus eligible. The range accounts for factors such as education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities, as well as internal equity and market alignment.
