Field Engineer - Data Center

About the role

The Field Engineer is part of the project management team responsible for overseeing and managing construction projects, ensuring they are completed safely, efficiently, and according to plans and specifications. This role involves project planning, resource management, quality control, and communication with stakeholders. Field Engineers work on the project site(s) they are supporting and must be technology-savvy (e.g., computers, tablets).

Responsibilities

• Planning and Preparation:
  • Review project plans and specifications: analyze drawings, technical documents, and identify potential issues.
  • Conduct site surveys and assessments: evaluate site conditions, identify hazards, and ensure suitability for construction.
  • Prepare site reports and documentation: maintain accurate records of site activities, progress, and issues.
• On-site Management and Supervision:
  • Oversee construction activities: ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Monitor project schedules and budgets: aid in tracking timelines and costs during construction phases.
  • Manage resources: monitor delivery and use of materials and equipment; coordinate with materials management.
  • Ensure quality control: inspect work in progress to meet required standards; complete QA/QC checklists and reports.
  • Collect as-built drawing redlines and construction progress photography.
  • Troubleshoot and problem-solve: address technical difficulties, design changes, or other issues; liaise between construction and engineering teams.
• Communication and Coordination:
  • Communicate with stakeholders: liaise with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and team members to share progress and address concerns.
  • Collaborate with professionals: work closely with engineers, designers, and specialists to ensure effective project execution.
  • Prepare reports and presentations: communicate project status, issues, and solutions to management and stakeholders; complete schedule updates.
• Safety and Compliance:
  • Enforce safety regulations: aid safety personnel in ensuring adherence to health and safety guidelines.
  • Manage environmental impact: assess and mitigate environmental effects of construction projects.

Requirements

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• 6 months to a year of experience in construction (preferred).

Skills

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• High attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
• Self-starter; able to work in a team atmosphere.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Physical Demands

• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including extended periods of standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stopping, and climbing.
• Work performed in both indoor and outdoor environments in all weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind).
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less; ability to judge distance and space relationships.
• Precise hand-eye coordination and ability to identify and distinguish colors.
