About the role
Thalle Construction Co., Inc., a heavy civil construction firm established in 1947, seeks a Field Engineer to support projects in Leonard, TX. Our work spans conventional concrete, roller compacted concrete, earthen dams, navigational waterway locks, reservoirs, large diameter underground utilities, treatment facilities, landfills, site work, mass soil & rock excavation, coal ash closures, DOT highway & bridge construction, and emergency services. We are part of The Tully Group, a family-owned construction enterprise with a long history in heavy civil projects across the U.S.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Project Team and Field Management to deliver safe, high-quality projects within budget, improving Operating Profit margins and strengthening customer relationships.
- Assist the Project Engineer with shop drawings, submittals, subcontractor and material scheduling, meetings, as-built drawings, job costing, procurement, and field operations.
- Operate and maintain the material tracking system.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and policies; identify and elevate non-compliance among employees, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Participate in daily Task Safety Awareness and weekly Safety Meetings.
- Support Quality personnel and the project through the Quality Management System.
- Track quantities daily and reconcile monthly for payment purposes.
- Review foremen’s reports daily to verify accurate recording before cost, income, or inventory entries.
- Document Time and Material operations on capture sheets and reconcile with the client daily.
- Conduct two site walks per day to communicate with foremen and superintendents about current operations.
- Participate in daily huddles to ensure projects are constructed expeditiously and profitably.
- Build strong, professional relationships with clients, representatives, and field inspectors.
- Assist buyout process, write requisitions, and communicate required information to the Project Team.
- Negotiate optimal deals for cost, quality, and delivery using company buyout procedures.
- Produce complete purchase orders after conditions are approved by the Project Manager.
- Understand key operational details of subcontracts and hold subcontractors accountable to their agreements.
- Attend subcontractor coordination meetings to provide updates on schedules, drawings, and specifications.
- Perform all duties with integrity and professionalism.
Requirements
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and HCSS/Heavy Job.
- Ability to prepare reports in Excel and Word.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with employees, subcontractors, and independent contractors.
- Initiative, organization, and planning skills.
- Ability to review and understand plans, specifications, and drawings.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Minimum 5–10 years of field experience in heavy civil construction.
- Proficiency in written and verbal business communication.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to talk, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone.
