Position Overview

A Field Engineer 1 is an entry-level electrical engineering position responsible for supporting electrical engineering design and analysis efforts. The role includes assisting in power system modeling, design documentation, and project support tasks under the supervision of more experienced engineers. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career engineer seeking to gain field experience and technical proficiency in the electrical testing, construction, and industrial services sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Execution / Engineering Design
    • Assist in preparing engineering studies (e.g., load flow, short circuit, arc flash) using software like SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower.
    • Support the development and revision of single-line diagrams and schematics.
    • Contribute to CAD-based drawing updates under engineer supervision.
  • Field Support / Site Coordination
    • Participate in field walkdowns and collect system data for analysis.
    • Provide basic support during testing or troubleshooting tasks.
    • Ensure accurate documentation of field findings.
  • Project Support & Collaboration
    • Assist in coordinating engineering deliverables with internal teams.
    • Support project documentation, scheduling, and status updates.
    • Collaborate with Engineers, Project Managers, and Technicians.
  • Compliance & Quality Assurance
    • Learn and apply relevant industry codes and safety standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70E).
    • Follow quality control procedures for deliverables.
  • Reporting & Documentation
    • Prepare draft reports and documentation for review by senior engineers.
    • Maintain accurate and organized engineering files.
  • Professional Judgment & Discretion
    • Apply foundational engineering principles to solve routine problems requiring the consistent use of judgment.
    • Interpret specifications, standards, and design criteria under guidance from senior engineers.
    • Exercise discretion in selecting approaches and adapting methods for assigned tasks.
  • Additional Duties
    • Perform other related duties as assigned to support business needs.
    • Continuously seek opportunities for professional development and contribute to team-wide learning and growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 0–2 years of electrical engineering-related experience
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and SKM Power Tools (or similar power systems analysis software such as ETAP or EasyPower)
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and time management skills
  • Ability to apply theoretical knowledge from formal education to practical engineering problems
  • Assignments require analysis, interpretation, and adaptation of standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passed or currently registered for the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • Holds an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) certification, or eligible to obtain within 12 months
  • Internship or co-op experience under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Demonstrated interest in pursuing PE licensure in the future

Physical Requirements

  • This job involves both indoor and outdoor work.
  • Regularly required to lift, carry and/or move up to 75 pounds repeatedly.
  • Climb ladders, staircases, step stools, stand, walk, sit, and operate vehicles for extended periods.
  • Bend, stoop, crawl and work in awkward positions or confined spaces for several hours.
  • Occasionally required to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including intense heat/cold, muddy and wet environments.
  • Perform precision tasks with instruments and fittings.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing.
