Field Engineer
About the role
Seeking a Field Electrical Engineer to support the construction, testing, commissioning, and energization of electrical infrastructure projects across the United States. In this role, you will serve as the Owner's Representative in the field, overseeing electrical installations, evaluating test results, identifying deficiencies, and ensuring systems are ready for energization. Projects include commercial EV charging infrastructure, facility power upgrades, medium-voltage distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, relays, and protection systems. This position is fully remote when not traveling to project sites (75% travel).
Responsibilities
- Perform field inspections and construction quality assurance reviews.
- Oversee testing and commissioning activities conducted by NETA-certified vendors.
- Evaluate transformer, cable, relay, and switchgear testing results.
- Identify installation deficiencies, code compliance issues, and energization blockers.
- Support troubleshooting of power system equipment, including transformers, switchgear, relays, circuit breakers, and automatic transfer switches.
- Document findings and develop punch lists and corrective action recommendations.
- Coordinate with contractors, testing firms, project managers, and onsite stakeholders to resolve field issues.
- Communicate technical findings, project status, and recommendations through reports and stakeholder meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in field engineering, electrical testing, commissioning, maintenance, or construction oversight.
- Experience with low- and medium-voltage electrical systems.
- Ability to interpret electrical test data and assess equipment readiness for service.
- Familiarity with NETA testing standards and acceptance testing practices.
Skills
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, Bluebeam, and related documentation tools.
- Ability to travel throughout the U.S. (75% travel).
Pay
The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $75.00/hr.

Schedule
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA. The role is fully remote when not traveling to project sites.
