Join Osmose Utilities Services, Inc., an organization with over 90 years of growth, specializing in services for the electric utility and telecommunications industries nationwide. We are seeking Field Data Technicians for the West Virginia area.

About the role

An Osmose Field Technician collects detailed technical information about electric utility and telecommunication facilities and equipment. This outdoor position involves hiking between spans of utility poles to capture data supporting outside plant engineering and fiber-optic construction projects. Routine overnight travel is required, typically 1-2 weeks at a time, with most weekends spent at home. Occasional out-of-state assignments may involve longer stays of up to a month.

Responsibilities

  • Work outdoors to collect field data supporting the engineering and design of fiber optic cable facilities, including measurements of attachment heights, span distances, and angles.
  • Submit organized, detailed data for each project, including maps, field notes, and digital images.
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as tablet computers, digital cameras, measuring tools, and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Represent Osmose and our customers professionally in the field.
  • Communicate effectively and daily with the project management team.
  • Work safely and independently with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical background preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of telecommunications and/or electrical distribution systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of pole design, including NESC requirements and general safety practices, is a plus.
  • Enjoy working outdoors in all types of weather and be physically capable of lifting 15 to 20 lbs. regularly.
  • Basic proficiency with computers, including the ability to read, interpret, and follow GPS maps.
  • Ability to follow process specifications in a high-quality, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel and work outside in variable terrain and weather conditions.
  • Reliable transportation.

  • Minimum 1 year of outdoor work-related experience.
  • Minimum 1 year working in a role requiring adherence to a safety program or safety protocols (details must be provided).
  • Minimum 6 months experience working in a quality-controlled environment (details must be provided).
  • Minimum 6 months experience traveling to various work locations, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.

Pay

Starting pay is $24.50/hour with opportunities for hourly bonuses. Additional compensation includes hotel expenses, contract-specific pay increases, a living allowance, and $4-$5/hour untaxed reimbursement for vehicle usage. Weekly pay is provided.
