About the role

The Field Battery Technician plans and coordinates activities related to installing equipment, investigating and resolving customer-reported technical issues, and preventing future operational or service difficulties.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer sites to evaluate, diagnose, and repair equipment.
  • Remove and disassemble cells, inspect parts for defects, replace defective parts, reassemble batteries, and fuse lead parts with a gas torch.
  • Fill cells with acid solution and determine specific gravity.
  • Wash, clean, and neutralize customer batteries on-site.
  • Install new or modified equipment at customer facilities to ensure full functionality according to specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and repair chargers.
  • Provide on-site technical assistance to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  • Maintain records of performance reports.
  • Serve as a communication link between the customer and the company to ensure effective service delivery.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; or industry-related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of breakdown experience or comparable service experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record with minimal traffic violations.
  • Ability to travel daily within assigned territories and perform overnight travel as required.
  • Must be insurable by Raymond West.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and similar software.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Experience working with hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and comprehend manuals, procedures, and schematics in English.
  • Ability to solve simple formulas and perform basic math.
  • Ability to operate a forklift truck.
  • Ability to analyze situations quickly, make decisions, and provide immediate feedback to customers.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Customer service experience in field support.

Physical Requirements

  • Non-sedentary position requiring frequent physical activity.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and job sites under construction.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds.
  • Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasional requirement to smell, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.
  • Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, high/precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration.
  • Noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud.

Pay

The hourly range for this position is $20.00 – $30.00. The specific pay offered may be influenced by factors such as relevant experience, education, and work location.
