Responsibilities

  • Lead field crews in pedestrian and shovel probe surveys, site delineation, and archaeological data recovery
  • Independently conduct archaeological monitoring
  • Manage field logistics and daily safety briefings (Job Hazard Analysis)
  • Independently identify, record, and evaluate archaeological sites, artifacts, ecofacts, and site formation processes
  • Collaborate with agency staff, contractors, landowners, and tribal representatives to ensure ethical, safe, and effective fieldwork
  • Train and mentor staff in methods, ethics, and technical skills
  • Use ESRI GIS, Microsoft Office, and WISAARD for data management and reporting

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Geology, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of professional archaeological fieldwork in Washington State, including supervisory experience
  • Strong familiarity with western Washington artifact types, site patterns, and survey strategies
  • Experience directing crews in challenging field environments
  • Wilderness First Aid, OSHA, and HAZWOPER certifications (or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to carry gear, hike off-trail, and lift up to 50 lbs
