Field Application Engineer

About the role

AssetLink is a small, growing distributed Internet of Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine communications company that provides remote asset monitoring solutions to customers. This role involves interacting directly with customers throughout a complex project’s lifecycle:

• At the beginning of a project to understand and figure out how to fulfill the customer’s needs.
• Through the fielding of a customer solution to ensure it is performing well and as envisioned.
• Over the ensuing lifetime of the deployment to ensure that the systems are working and delivering value to our customers.

The candidate must be comfortable spanning software systems from embedded firmware all the way up to networks and databases. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, testing, building, and programming embedded systems, engaging with manufacturing, and performing design work—especially at the system level.

Responsibilities

• Read C code, query a database, and read schematics to integrate these elements and draw conclusions about system behavior or design requirements.
• Troubleshoot, test, build, and program embedded systems.
• Perform system-level design work and collaborate with manufacturing.
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers, from initial project scoping through long-term support.
• Bring engineering expertise to configure and develop solutions that will be deployed in the field.

Requirements

• Experience in C is a must; must know or be willing to learn PHP and MySQL.
• Experience with embedded systems, embedded debugging, and sensor hardware is preferred.
• Strong technical communication skills—this is a highly customer-facing role.
• Ability to work in a distributed team and location is flexible.
