Field and Laboratory Technician

About the role

The National Center for Water Quality Research (NCWQR), part of Heidelberg University, seeks a highly motivated Laboratory and Field Technician to support the NCWQR's operations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain sample integrity from collection to analysis.
• Conduct specific analyses following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure proper functioning of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
• Manage laboratory database systems.
• Prepare for upcoming sampling.
• Update laboratory procedures or equipment as necessary.
• Help with special projects.
• Collaborate and train new technicians.
• Assist with fieldwork, including sample collection and maintenance of field stations.
• Train and supervise student workers.
• Support students with independent research projects.

Requirements

• Completion of a Bachelor of Science in the Natural Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Knowledge of and enthusiasm for stream, river, wetland, and lake ecosystems.
• Ability to work in adverse field conditions and lift up to 50 pounds.
• A valid driver's license.
• A flexible schedule.

Qualifications

• Experience using chemical analysis to quantify nutrient concentrations in water.
• Experience sampling aquatic ecosystems.
