About the role
The National Center for Water Quality Research (NCWQR), part of Heidelberg University, seeks a highly motivated Laboratory and Field Technician to support the NCWQR's operations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain sample integrity from collection to analysis.
- Conduct specific analyses following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure proper functioning of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Manage laboratory database systems.
- Prepare for upcoming sampling.
- Update laboratory procedures or equipment as necessary.
- Help with special projects.
- Collaborate and train new technicians.
- Assist with fieldwork, including sample collection and maintenance of field stations.
- Train and supervise student workers.
- Support students with independent research projects.
Requirements
- Completion of a Bachelor of Science in the Natural Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Knowledge of and enthusiasm for stream, river, wetland, and lake ecosystems.
- Ability to work in adverse field conditions and lift up to 50 pounds.
- A valid driver's license.
- A flexible schedule.
Qualifications
- Experience using chemical analysis to quantify nutrient concentrations in water.
- Experience sampling aquatic ecosystems.
