Fiber Technician Fiber Installation, Splicing & Testing Job Title: Fiber Technician (Data Center Environment) Location: New Albany, OH Work Model: Onsite Position Overview UNICON International is seeking an experienced Fiber Technician to support a large-scale, mission-critical data center connectivity project. This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on technician with established experience in fiber-optic infrastructure, structured cabling, fiber testing, connectivity verification, circuit auditing, and troubleshooting. The Fiber Technician will independently perform fiber installation, testing, troubleshooting, and connectivity activities while working collaboratively with project teams to ensure installations meet required safety, quality, and documentation standards. What You Will Be Doing Install, pull, route, dress, organize, and label fiber-optic and copper cablingPerform fiber termination and splicing activitiesPerform fiber testing and end-to-end connectivity verificationConduct circuit auditing and validation against port maps and project documentationClean and inspect fiber connectorsUtilize OTDR, optical power meters/light sources, VFLs, fiber scopes, and related testing equipmentInterpret testing results and troubleshoot physical-layer connectivity issuesIdentify contamination, excessive loss, damaged connectors, breaks, incorrect routing, polarity issues, and other fiber faultsTrace cables and verify connections against port maps, drawings, and cable schedulesCorrect identified connectivity issues and retest fiber connectionsSupport rack, patch-panel, pathway, and cable-management activitiesWork with single-mode and multi-mode fiberRead and interpret drawings, fiber plans, cable schedules, port maps, and work instructionsDocument testing results, corrective actions, and completed work accuratelyFollow all safety, PPE, ESD, quality, and site requirements What's Needed 3.5-9 years of relevant experience3-9 years working directly in a Data Center environmentDemonstrated hands-on experience with fiber optics, telecommunications, structured cabling, or data center infrastructureFiber installation, termination, and/or splicing experienceHands-on fiber testing and troubleshooting experienceExperience using OTDR, optical power meters/light sources, VFLs, fiber scopes, or comparable testing equipmentExperience performing connectivity verification and/or circuit auditingKnowledge of single-mode and multi-mode fiberStructured cabling and/or ISP/OSP experienceAbility to independently identify and troubleshoot physical-layer connectivity issuesAbility to read port maps, drawings, fiber plans, and technical documentationStrong attention to safety, quality, and documentationData center, telecommunications, carrier, or mission-critical infrastructure experience preferredSteel-toed safety boots are required on the first day of employment and must be worn in accordance with site safety requirements.
