Fiber Splice Technician, Fairfield ME

About the Role

We are hiring an experienced Fiber Optic Splicing Technician to be based out of our Fairfield, Maine office. This is a field-based position supporting projects throughout New Hampshire and New England. You’ll report directly from your home to assigned job sites, with no office check-ins required. The role involves splicing, testing, and troubleshooting across OSP, ISP, and aerial environments. If you thrive working independently, enjoy solving problems in the field, and are open to regional travel, this position is for you.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fiber splicing, testing, and termination on various networks and enclosures
  • Review splice drawings, work orders, and schematics for accuracy
  • Operate OTDRs, iOLM, fusion splicers, ribbon splicers, and power meters
  • Accurately complete project documentation, test records, and deliverables
  • Support jobsite crews, providing guidance and mentorship when needed
  • Work directly with customers and project managers to meet expectations and deadlines

Requirements

  • Prior hands-on experience as a Fiber Splicing Technician
  • Strong understanding of single and mass fusion splicing, cable prep, and termination
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot fiber issues, including characterization and advanced testing
  • Familiarity with multiple OSP/ISP splice enclosures and common industry equipment
  • Comfortable with basic computer functions and eager to learn new software (ARC/GIS, Telvent, Trimble a plus)
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing (CDL preferred but not required)
  • Must pass a DOT physical, drug screen, and background check
  • OSHA-10 certification (or ability to complete within 90 days, provided by company)
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as projects require
  • Local to New Hampshire or planning to relocate to the area
  • High school graduate or equivalent required

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to sit, stand, climb, kneel, bend, lift, crawl, squat, reach, and utilize both hands and feet in aerial and underground environments. Drive and operate vehicles and/or buckets. Exposure to heat, cold, dust, wet, vibration, and very loud noise. Frequent lifting of up to 80 lbs from floor to above head. Requires extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, walking, and regular use of office equipment such as computers, copiers, and fax machines.
