Fiber Optic Field Support Specialist (Part-Time) - San Antonio, TX

About the role

The Fiber Optic Field Support Specialist – Part-Time position within Corning's Optical Communications segment focuses on providing product training, new product introductions, and field support for fiber optic cable and hardware installations. This role also involves supporting field trials, product evaluations, sales demonstrations, and data center/fiber to the home (FTTH) installations.

Responsibilities

• Provide after-the-sale training and field support for Corning Optical Communications fiber optic cable and hardware installations (Inside Plant and Outside Plant).
• Actively pursue competitive information and report back to Sales.
• Support field trials and product evaluations for fiber optic cable and hardware installations.
• Support Sales demonstrations and presentations and trade shows.
• Perform training, troubleshooting, and field support for both single and ribbon fiber splicing.
• Teach Tier 1 (light source and power meter) and Tier 2 (OTDR) fiber optic cable field testing applications.
• Instruct fiber optic installation classes up to 25 students as a qualified instructor or a technical assist role.

Requirements

• Technical degree or equivalent work experience
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Fiber Optics
• Possess a driver’s license and be insurable
• Work independently with little or no supervision
• Able and willing to travel 50% of the time
• Interface and communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, internal and external to the company

Qualifications

• Desired: Spanish proficiency
• Desired: Proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
• Desired: Knowledge of Corning Optical Communications products

Skills

• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
• Knowledge of fiber optic technology and installation processes

Benefits

This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $35.00 hourly rate - $40.00 hourly rate. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $35.00 to $40.00.
