Fiber Construction Technician I

About the role

TDS Telecom is seeking an Outside Plant Construction Technician II in Butte, MT. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week role with a flexible schedule. The position involves installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing fiber optic facilities to ensure customer connectivity. Ideal candidates are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and skilled in construction and safety.

Responsibilities

• Perform general construction and maintenance of aerial and buried fiber facilities
• Operate and maintain construction equipment, including excavation tools
• Install, splice, test, troubleshoot, and repair fiber optic facilities
• Conduct cable fault acceptance tests and locate defective fiber
• Update GIS, maps, and as-builts; set and label infrastructure
• Restore worksites to original condition upon project completion
• Train and mentor team members as needed
• Maintain construction equipment
• Provide support to field service technicians and complete required documentation

Qualifications

• 6+ months experience in customer service, electrical or utility construction, or TDS Telecom Field Services internship
• Technical certification (or higher)
• Current military service with honorable discharge
• Valid driver's license and eligibility for DOT requirements
• Ability to obtain a Class A CDL
• Ability to climb poles, ladders, towers, and other structures
• Ability to kneel, dig, lift, and pull
• Basic understanding of telecommunication products and services
• Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task

Pay

The pay for this position ranges from $22.62 to $33.94 per hour. Actual offers will be based on skills, qualifications, experience, location, and role-specific competencies. Some positions may also offer additional compensation, such as bonuses or equity awards.
