About the role
ArcelorMittal International (AMI) is the commercial arm of ArcelorMittal, the world's leading steel and mining company. Operating across more than 60 countries, AMI connects suppliers, customers, and global commodity markets through an extensive international trading network. As part of our continued growth in the circular economy and raw materials sector, we are looking for an experienced Scrap Trader (Ferrous & Non-Ferrous) to strengthen our North American trading platform. This is an entrepreneurial front-office role with direct responsibility for originating business, building supplier partnerships, identifying market opportunities, and generating profitable trade flows across international markets.
Responsibilities
- Originate and develop new ferrous and/or non-ferrous scrap supply opportunities.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with scrap yards, recyclers, processors, industrial generators, and other market participants.
- Identify and execute profitable domestic and international trading opportunities.
- Develop export trading flows to global markets including Europe, Asia, and Turkey.
- Analyze market trends, pricing dynamics, freight economics, and arbitrage opportunities.
- Negotiate commercial agreements and manage trade execution from purchase through final delivery.
- Manage commercial risks related to logistics, quality, claims, and contract performance.
- Drive profitability through strong margin management and commercial decision-making.
Requirements
- 5+ years of successful experience in physical ferrous and/or non-ferrous scrap trading.
- Proven track record of sourcing, originating, and growing profitable trading activities.
- Strong knowledge of North American scrap markets and supply chains.
- Experience in international and export-oriented commodity trading.
- Solid understanding of trade finance, Incoterms, freight markets, Letters of Credit, and trade execution.
Skills
- Strong commercial acumen and entrepreneurial mindset.
- Established network of suppliers and industry contacts across North America.
- Excellent negotiation and relationship-management skills.
- Ability to identify and capitalize on market dislocations and arbitrage opportunities.
- Deep understanding of scrap grades, specifications, and market fundamentals.
- Strong analytical capabilities combined with a hands-on trading approach.
- High level of ownership, accountability, and results orientation.
