About the role

I am a 55-year-old female who enjoys various activities outside the home and requires a level of supervision to access these safely. I have many interests including Beamish, Durham, shopping, visits to the cinema, and going to the theatre. I have some communication difficulties and may need help to explain myself in unfamiliar situations. The ideal candidate will engage with me, chat with me, show interest in my activities, and be proactive in suggesting appropriate places to go and activities I may enjoy.

You will work under my family’s direction to meet my needs and must be reliable, able to work flexible hours, respect my privacy and security (especially in our home), and maintain confidentiality in all areas of your work. Regular communication with my family is essential to ensure all my needs are being met.

There is a genuine occupational requirement for the holder of this post to be female in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and Equality Act 2010 schedule 9, paragraphs 1–4.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and support to enable safe access to activities outside the home.
  • Assist with communication in unfamiliar situations, demonstrating patience and understanding.
  • Engage with me, chat about my interests, and show genuine interest in my activities.
  • Proactively suggest appropriate places to visit and activities I may enjoy.
  • Work under the direction of my family to meet my needs.
  • Maintain reliability and flexibility in working hours.
  • Respect my privacy and security, particularly when in our home.
  • Uphold confidentiality in all aspects of the role.
  • Communicate regularly with my family to ensure my needs are being met.

Requirements

  • Must be female (genuine occupational requirement).
  • Experience or understanding of children or adults with special needs is advantageous.
  • Patience and strong communication skills.
  • Reliability and flexibility in working hours.
  • Permission to work in the U.K. at the time of starting employment.

Schedule

18 hours per week: 9 AM–6 PM on Saturdays plus one other flexible day (to be discussed).

Pay

£15.00 per hour.
