About the Role

The Mental Health Technician provides direct and support services to clients suffering from mental illness or a co-occurring disorder. This position involves supervising clients at all times, ensuring their participation in treatment-related services, assisting in insight building and motivation for treatment, supporting activities of daily living, and attending community support and recreational activities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise clients to ensure a safe and comfortable setting, including:
    • Providing support during client crises or breakdowns and alerting appropriate staff
    • Updating the clinical team on client status and well-being
    • Monitoring clients’ whereabouts, well-being, and safety at all times
    • Identifying and reporting unusual or risky behavior to appropriate staff
    • Conducting chart audits to ensure all clients are accounted for in notes and reporting errors
    • Performing light cleaning, laundry, and supply monitoring as needed
    • Providing shift change reports to ensure proper coordination of care
  • Ensure client participation and engagement in treatment/programming, including:
    • Ensuring clients attend groups on time and participate in treatment
    • Monitoring client resistance and collaborating with the clinical team to create action plans
    • Attending clinical supervision meetings to discuss client participation, attitude, and progress
    • Assisting the clinical team in creating and executing treatment and action plans
    • Providing feedback on client progress based on direct face-to-face interactions
  • Weekly and monthly responsibilities:
    • Attending clinical meetings to review client updates and assist in treatment planning
    • Conducting client assignment audits to ensure participation in individual counseling/mentoring
    • Participating in trainings offered by BBH to build clinical skills and improve client engagement

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to read, interpret, and write clearly and informatively, with strong editing skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills for positive or negative situations; ability to listen, clarify, and respond effectively
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit at a desk and work, as well as move between locations effectively
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients and staff
  • Daily use of computers, typing, handwriting, and phones

Schedule

  • Availability on weekends is required
  • Shift options: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM and 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
  • Weekly schedule is subject to change based on program needs
