Job Purpose

The Feline Lifesaving Manager will report to the Senior Operations Director and works closely with the Feline Transfer Coordinator, Feline Programs Support Specialist, Feline Foster Manager, and feline staff onsite to ensure adoptable cats are available in all locations. The primary responsibility of this position is to increase the lifesaving capacity of KC Pet Project without compromising the welfare of the cats in our program by keeping each location at their capacity for care.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Maintain records for Department of Agriculture, including health certificate and adoption paperwork, as well as follow all Department of Agriculture guidelines at all locations
  • Proactively recruit, manage, schedule and train program volunteers to ensure all cats receive daily care and enrichment
  • When a volunteer is not available, it is the responsibility of the Feline Lifesaving Manager to find a substitute caregiver or cover the care shift personally
  • Provide necessary supplies for Petco Cat Habitats and Petsmart Habitats (accel, paper towels, clean linens, etc)
  • Understand and follow store procedures to restock food and litter through Petco
  • Understand and follow store procedures for care and adoption through Petsmart
  • Act as a liaison between store employees, KC Pet Project, and volunteers
  • Communicate any unresolved issues with store personnel to management in a timely manner
  • Manage the flow of cat moving to Petco and Petsmart Habitats based on the capacity for care of each location
  • Evaluate available cats to ensure criteria is met for Petco and Petsmart Habitat Program both medically and behaviorally through videos, photos, conversations, and paper records
  • Provide resources and trainings to volunteers and Petco and Petsmart staff to improve welfare of cats
  • Collect and analyze data to monitor adoption rates, length of stay, and overall welfare of transferred cats

Shared Duties And Responsibilities With Transfer Coordinator

  • Assess daily population at offsite adoption centers as well as the main campus
  • Maintain continuity of cats moving to adoption centers and proactively work to thoughtfully fill empty kennels at those locations in a timely manner with pets that are appropriate for those locations. Ensure all PetPoint notes are current on all cats moving to offsite adoption kennels: vaccination records, microchipping, health certificates, and behavior information is current and organized before transport
  • Arrange transport of cats to offsite adoption centers and update their location when leaving the main campus
  • Observe notes for behavior or medical concerns noted at adoption centers and coordinate return of cats with medical or behavioral concerns to main shelter when necessary
  • Maintain an ongoing dialogue with program volunteers and KC Pet Project staff
  • Use fear free (feline friendly) handling at all times when loading animals in transport carriers, moving through the shelter, loading in vehicles for transport, and unloading at locations. Understand and adhere to Missouri and Kansas Department of Agriculture requirements for documentation and transporting of animals
  • Maintain transport vehicle in a clean and safe condition at all times and work with shelter management to ensure routine maintenance is provided as needed

Working Conditions

  • Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, high noise levels, extreme temperatures, hazardous chemicals, and sharp objects
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs, long periods of standing, bending, stooping, reaching, animal handling, and restraint in an animal shelter
  • Potential exposure to emotional aspects of working in animal welfare

Qualifications and educational background

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Supervision of staff experience is preferred
  • Program development experience is preferred
  • Any combination of training and experience which demonstrates successful animal handling, sanitation or expertise and the knowledge and skills necessary for this position
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive company vehicles: must be 21 years of age or older and have an acceptable driving record to meet insurance requirements
