About the role

The Feeney Lab is now recruiting for a Professional Researcher at the Assistant or Associate rank.

Area of Specialization/Responsibilities

The general responsibilities of this position are to carry out research investigating the human cellular immune response to childhood malaria, including writing grants, devising appropriate research strategies, designing and carrying out experiments, interpreting data, reporting the results and interpretation of the experiments to internal and external audiences, and preparing and submitting scholarly papers for peer-review. Additional responsibilities will include management of CHR (ethical review) applications and documents, updating the lab’s Biological Use Authorization when necessary, and ensuring lab compliance with all safety and regulatory rules. In addition, this individual will be responsible for helping to manage collaborations with outside collaborators, which will include organizing teleconferences, managing MTAs (materials transfer agreements), and overseeing shipment of samples between our lab and collaborating labs. As a relatively senior member of the lab, this individual will be expected to provide a leadership and mentoring role, particularly for staff research assistants and graduate students during the course of the above work.

Specific job expectations

- Project management a funded collaboration on T cell responses to malaria and tracking milestone progress - Regular attendance of one-on-one meetings with PI. Also regular attendance of Divisional ILM meeting unless specific lab obligations conflict. - Proactive role in training of new lab members regarding lab safety, basic skills of cell culture and sample processing, flow cytometric staining and analysis, and other needed skills as determined in discussion with PI. This will require iterative, training, feedback, and reporting of progress to PI. - Leadership and modeling in lab safety and regulatory compliance. - Proactive communication with lab members regarding weekly lab meeting schedule, laboratory inspections, and safety issues. - Proactive communication, including responsiveness by email regarding all matters above.

Required qualifications

- Doctoral degree or its equivalent - Previous experience with the design of in vitro and ex vivo T-cell assays to measure cytokine production, degranulation and proliferation - Ability to independently operate, troubleshoot, and analyze data from high parameter cell sorter. - Ability to independently operate, troubleshoot, and analyze data from a spectral flow cytometer - Previous experience with Plasmodium falciparum parasite culture - Previous experience using STATA to analyze large clinical data sets and perform basic biostatistical analyses - Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred qualifications

- Previous experience using R programming language

Pay

A reasonable estimate for this position is $93,400-$146,700.
