Federal Work Study -Athletics
City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 70,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education. The Federal Work Study Program (FWS) is a federally-funded financial aid program that provides subsidized part-time employment for eligible students to assist them with postsecondary financial needs.
About the role
The FWS program encourages students to gain experience in their prospective fields by placing them in areas and departments aligned with their area of study whenever possible. Students use their wages towards educational and living expenses. This position is within the Athletic Department at Olive-Harvey College.
Responsibilities
- Assist at reception desk, greeting students, faculty, and staff entering the office
- Support staff in day-to-day functions of the office
- Provide support on various projects and assignments as needed
- Perform general office support including filing, faxing, photocopying, and data entry
- Adhere to City Colleges of Chicago Customer Services Excellence Standards
- File and complete paperwork necessary for NJCAA eligibility, enter statistics, and conduct internet research
- Assist in the setup and game administration (score clock, etc.) of home athletic contests
- Perform laundry and organization of athletic equipment and practice materials
Hours will remain consistent, though some times and days of work will vary throughout the semester, including some weekends for athletic contests.
Requirements
- Applicants must be 16 years or older, have work permit consent, and be eligible to work in the United States
- Must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours (pre-credit or credit classes)
- Must be pursuing an approved educational credential, degree, or certificate
- Must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (waived for first-semester new students)
- Must be in “good standing” – no City Colleges of Chicago academic restrictions
- Must not be a current full- or part-time employee of the City Colleges of Chicago
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at the City Colleges of Chicago
- Knowledge of City Colleges of Chicago
- Excellent oral communication and customer service skills
- Promotes a positive role model and favorable public image as a City Colleges of Chicago representative
- Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Services Excellence Standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, data entry, and attention to detail
Pay
Student worker rate is $17.00 per hour, in accordance with City Colleges approved salary scale.
