About the role

The FDA Office and Location is at the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Silver Spring, Maryland. CBER focuses on protecting and enhancing public health through the regulation of biological and related products.

Research Project

Multiple groups at CBER are developing vaccines targeting Klebsiella pneumoniae, a significant cause of hospital-acquired infections. Functional antibody assays are needed to evaluate these vaccines against various serotypes. You will learn to develop and implement assays like serum bactericidal antibody assays and opsonophagocytic antibody assays.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain experience in bioassay development.
  • Learn how to design and implement bioassays and analyze data.
  • Learn and become proficient in functional antibody assays.
  • Advance professional development in vaccine evaluation.

Anticipated Appointment Start Date

Summer 2026. Start date is flexible and depends on various factors.

Appointment Length

The appointment will initially be for one year, but may be renewed based on performance and funding availability.

Level of Participation

The appointment is full-time.

Participant Stipend

The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience.

Citizenship Requirements

This opportunity is available to U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR) only.

  • Citizen or LPR
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral Degree in Life Health and Medical Sciences
