About the role

This position resides within the System Training Education and Prevention Program under the Behavioral Health Bureau. The Fatal Overdose Review Team (FORT) Coordinator oversees all functions of the Fatal Overdose Review Team, which includes representatives from county and private agencies. The team reviews individual fatal and non-fatal overdoses to understand causes and incidences of drug overdoses in the county and develops plans to prevent overdose deaths.

The coordinator reviews data from the Chesapeake Regional Information System (CRISP) and the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) to select cases for review, analyzes CRISP data for bi-monthly meetings, schedules and plans all Fatal Overdose Review Team meetings, and participates in multidisciplinary meetings to implement recommendations. This role also conducts research on meeting recommendations, develops and maintains a strategic plan for implementation, and works with community partners to execute selected recommendations.

Additional responsibilities include completing required reports for the Maryland Overdose Fatality Review office, developing meeting minutes, creating presentations or securing presenters, and collecting, interpreting, and analyzing data to improve substance use prevention programming.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee all functions of the Fatal Overdose Review Team (FORT).
  • Review data from CRISP and PDMP to select cases for review and analyze CRISP data for bi-monthly meetings.
  • Schedule and plan bi-monthly Fatal Overdose Review Team meetings.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to implement Fatal Overdose Review Team recommendations, including the Overdose Prevention team and subcommittees.
  • Conduct research on recommendations made in meetings and develop a strategic plan for implementation.
  • Work with community partners to implement selected recommendations.
  • Complete required reports for the Maryland Overdose Fatality Review office.
  • Develop meeting minutes and presentations or secure presenters as needed.
  • Collect, interpret, and analyze data to improve substance use prevention programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, health care administration, behavioral health, social work, psychology, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 2 years of related professional work experience; OR a Master’s degree in one of the fields listed above and one year of related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in behavioral health, including substance use/primary prevention and harm reduction strategies.
  • Experience with meeting facilitation, grant management, and program evaluation.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality while leading a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated experience with needs assessments, strategic planning, public speaking, and meeting facilitation.
  • Understanding of complex public health-related issues.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to accomplish objectives.
