About the role

This employee is a member of a para-professional social service support unit who reports to the unit Coordinator. Primary responsibilities include providing supportive services for Casework staff in the agency and a high level of interaction with staff, clients and client children. Daily travel and transportation can be expected. Some out-of-County travel will be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Transportation of clients and materials to sites throughout Montgomery and surrounding counties
  • Must have own means of transportation
  • Supervision of clients during necessary specimen collection(s) ensuring appropriate routing of specimen
  • Provides supervision for children at appointment sites in community locations
  • Provides family-oriented social services to children and families, through parent education in areas of family and home management as needed
  • Conducts evaluation of client families through observation of parents, home and care of children, including individual child needs
  • Supervises care and safety of child clients when they have need to spend time in office, including scheduled family visits and emergency situations when children are awaiting shelter placement
  • Provides client observation documentation and case-related documentation as needed in OCY information system
  • Assists Caseworker with duties related to goals, needs and objectives of caseload families
  • Transports children to and from school from foster homes when needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills including ability to use tablets, laptops and cell phone devices
  • Familiarity with community resources helpful
  • Knowledge of basic child care, simple first aid and accident prevention
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with clients, agency staff and other professionals
  • Knowledge of basic home management, safety and budgeting
  • Knowledge of standard driving safety and PA vehicle laws and regulations
  • Pennsylvania residency is a requirement for this position

Minimum Experience and Training

  • An associate's degree in human services, sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related course work, and one year of experience in a human services agency; or
  • Graduation from high school, or its equivalency, and three years of experience in public contact work in a human services agency which includes one year of experience in interviewing and obtaining information; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training
  • This position is subject to mandates requiring Child Abuse, Criminal History, and FBI Clearances for employment
  • Pennsylvania residency is a requirement for this position

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Must have automobile in good working condition with Pennsylvania driver's license and adequate insurance coverage.
