About the role

The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is seeking a Family Services Assistant (FSA) to administer and evaluate services to children and families under the direction of the Center Director. The FSA will implement the YMCA’s Early Learning Family Services program and work towards achieving related goals for children and families.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support the delivery of comprehensive family services in areas such as Health, Nutrition, Social Services, Eligibility, and Education.
  • Serve as a family advocate to support family well-being and promote children's learning and development for the 0-5 Head Start and Early Head Start Program.
  • Maintain required documentation for governing agencies, including Head Start, Bright from the Start, GA Pre-K, Quality Rated, and YMCA of Metro Atlanta.
  • Recruit eligible children, assist families with registrations, and develop strategies to improve attendance.
  • Make referrals to the Disabilities/Mental Health Specialist and monitor center attendance.
  • Identify families’ needs, interests, strengths, goals, services, and resources to support family well-being.
  • Review individual progress, revise goals, and evaluate identified needs and family progress.
  • Establish and maintain a network of resource contacts for emergency and crisis situations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of case management services within ChildPlus software and other data management systems.
  • Conduct home visits and develop community partnerships to facilitate services and referrals.
  • Collaborate with the Parent Family and Community Engagement team to develop parent engagement opportunities.
  • Support parent activities that promote child learning and development in areas such as Education, Health, Transition, and Literacy.
  • Establish and maintain systems for ensuring children’s health screenings, exams, and medical history.
  • Coordinate medical appointments, identify Medical Homes, and ensure treatment plans are documented and delivered.
  • Administer first aid and medication as needed, and maintain first aid supplies.
  • Participate in agency-wide projects, such as Community Assessments, Self-Assessments, and Strategic Planning.
  • Maintain confidential files on all enrollees, including ChildPlus data entry.
  • Support a welcoming environment that incorporates the unique cultural, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds of families.
  • Review CACFP Income Eligibility Application forms and determine eligibility categories.
  • Serve as Director on Duty, floater between classrooms, and relieve staff from breaks, trainings, and absences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or a related field.
  • Trained or equivalent coursework in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development.
  • 1+ years of experience in case management and/or family engagement/supports/advocacy.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to travel for family visits.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the ability to pass a pre-employment background check, including a Criminal Record check, Drug Screening, motor vehicle record (MVR), and reference check. They must also be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.

Skills

The candidate should be able to perform tasks such as sitting, bending, stooping, standing, repetitive keyboard work, seeing, verbal communications, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
