Family Physician
Summary
Provides comprehensive primary medical care services for individuals and families on a continuing basis regardless of age, race or sex.
Essential Job Functions
- Address health maintenance and treat conditions that occur in everyday life, including common illnesses, injuries, and chronic diseases.
- Elicit and record information about patient’s medical history.
- Orders or executes various diagnostic tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient’s condition.
- Administers or prescribes treatments and medications.
- Promotes health and plays a role in preventing diseases through vaccinations, screenings, and health education.
- May provide prenatal care to pregnant women and provides postnatal care to mothers and infants.
- May perform surgical office procedures.
- Refers patients to medical specialists for consultant services when necessary for further diagnosis or treatment.
- Communicates effectively with patients, explaining procedures, discussing test results, and providing health advice.
- Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals, such as nurses, social workers, and specialists.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervision of mid-level providers (P.A.’s, N.P.’s)
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.).
- Current State of Michigan Physician License, current DEA License, and a current Controlled Substance License.
- Board certification.
