Family Nurse Practitioner

About the Role

The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) participates in delivering excellent medical services in a patient-centered medical home environment, emphasizing disease prevention. The FNP provides quality and affordable healthcare to all patients, diagnosing, treating, and following up according to individual medical needs. The role involves exploring alternative treatment methods when cost is a concern, prescribing medications, and making referrals as needed. The FNP also contributes to committee meetings, including Peer Review and Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI), to enhance clinic operations while prioritizing patient needs.

Schedule

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday.

Responsibilities

• Serves on the Patient Care Team.
• Diagnoses, treats, and helps patients manage acute and chronic illnesses.
• Conducts physical examinations and interprets medical history.
• Orders and performs diagnostic tests and procedures.
• Prescribes age-specific physical therapy and rehabilitation.
• Immunizes patients against communicable diseases.
• Prescribes pharmacologic treatments (depending on state regulation).
• Provides primary and specialty care services for adults and children.
• Refers patients to medical specialists for consultations when necessary.
• Performs minor procedures and injections.
• Counsels and educates patients about preventive measures to avoid illness.
• Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complies with legal regulations.
• Prepares records and reports as required in support of services rendered.
• Attends and participates in patient care reports, conferences, and professional staff meetings.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and completing CME courses.
• Participates in the development of medical protocol and quality assurance/quality improvement (QA/QI) projects.
• Actively improves patient customer service, wait time, patient flow, and utilization of clinic resources.
• Maintains BLS certifications and state licensure (certified through the American Heart Association).
• Attends and actively participates in staff meetings.
• Collaborates with team members to improve clinic operations and maintain positive relationships.
• Assists with coverage of clinical tasks for providers on PTO or medical leave, as coordinated by the Medical Director.
• Upholds HIPAA compliance and protects patient information.
• Ensures compliance with all 19 Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Health Center Program Requirements.
• Actively participates in and supports quality improvement activities and clinical practice team efforts, emphasizing patient needs.

Requirements

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Successful completion of a Family Nurse Practitioner program from an accredited program or school.
• Licensed in the State of Nevada.
• Maintains BLS certification and state licensure (certified through the American Heart Association).

• Ability to correctly calculate and administer doses of medication.

Physical Demands

• Occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
• Frequent sitting.
