Primary Responsibilities
- Recognize barriers that prevent families' full engagement in schools by providing resources, interpretation, and other related services.
- Address family's questions and concerns to appropriate school staff for the purpose of supporting students' school experience.
- Contact parents through phone calls, home visits, and/or meetings to encourage their child's attendance in school.
- Maintain documentation of activities, LEAP and student logs, and prepare reports as required.
- Develops an individual work plan, with quantifiable deliverables, that detail the Liaison role in the implementation of the schools' goals and family/student engagement plan.
- Works with other district liaisons to design and implement Family University—a year-long offering of educational opportunities for families.
- Organizes and supports family nights, conferences, and other school-based events.
- Collaborates with the Office of Family, School, and Community Partnerships and community partners to coordinate family resource nights.
- Supports the school's chronic absenteeism team by hosting conversations to remove barriers of chronic absenteeism, including home visits, use of ParentSquare, school health services, and community resources.
- Performs other duties as required that support students' attendance in school.
Qualifications And Abilities
- Fluent in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the district's school-family partnerships policy and regulation documents.
- Knowledge of child growth and development and learning strategies to foster educational growth.
- Understanding of class and cultural backgrounds for families and the community, and respect for ethnic, cultural, and language diversity.
- Ability to employ tact, diplomacy, and sound judgment in dealing with sensitive issues and challenging situations.
- Knowledge of Danbury's rich resources and understanding of families' cultural backgrounds.
- Well-organized, flexible, and self-started to maintain timelines and responsibilities.
- Possesses commuter skills in Word, Excel, Zoom, PowerSchool, and Parent Square and other related databases.
- Two years of experience working with families and communities in different capacities.
- Twelve college credits in Early Childhood Education (ECE) desired.
- Ability to travel to home visits.
Working Conditions
- Full-time 32.5 hours per week.
- Scheduled in consultation with the school principal or Office of Family, School, and Community Partnerships for some evenings (5 per year) and weekend hours (3 per year).
- $20.00 per hour as a member of the CSEA Paraeducator Union.
