Fall 2026 Intensive Case Management Intern - UNPAID
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping people survive, reclaim control of their future, and strengthen their communities. Founded in 1933, the IRC is one of the world's largest INGOs, operating in over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities. The IRC in Atlanta, established in 1979, has resettled over 30,000 refugees and provides additional services to another 2,500 refugees and asylees annually.
SCOPE OF ICM INTERN WORK
The IRC’s Intensive Case Management (ICM) Program offers case management services for up to 12 months to refugees and asylees with special needs, including significant medical needs. Services include connecting clients with community partners, scheduling medical appointments, educating clients on U.S. healthcare and social service systems, assisting with social service assistance programs, inputting client information into IRC’s database, and communicating client concerns with ICM staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist caseworkers with mapping community assets and making referrals to community partners
- Aid in scheduling medical appointments for clients
- Provide education on U.S. healthcare and social service systems to clients
- Help clients apply for social service assistance programs
- Input client information into IRC’s database
- Communicate client concerns with ICM staff and coordinate service plans with supervisor
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent communication and writing skills
- Organized with attention to detail
- Able to work independently and under pressure
- An interest in international and refugee issues
- Creativity and initiative to follow through on projects
- Strong desire to help people and enthusiasm for working in a multicultural setting
- Computer literacy – preferably with PC systems
- A car/driver’s license is beneficial
REQUIREMENTS
- Must submit intern hours on volunteer portal
- Must pass a background check
- Commitment of at least 15 hours per week for a minimum of 3 consecutive months
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- We are unable to provide sponsorship for a US work authorization
- This is an in-person position reporting to the ICM Supervisor
- The internship will be filled on a rolling basis
- Applications accepted until August 14th, 2026, or until the position is filled, whichever occurs first
- Internship will begin the week of September 8th, 2026
