Fair Futures Coach (EFFC)

About the role

Build and maintain relationships with up to 18 young people at any given time. Provide ongoing social/emotional support and work 1:1 to develop academic and career development goals based on their interests and strengths. Connect young people to quality schools, programs, resources, and opportunities aligned with their goals. Collaborate with Case Planners, Tutors, Specialists, and foster/birth parents as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support to help youth set and take measurable steps toward academic and career goals.
• Re-engage disconnected youth and assist with re-enrollment in academic settings.
• Assess fit between youth and their academic setting; facilitate transfers to better-fit programs when needed.
• Visit schools/programs to build relationships with staff, review transcripts and academic data, and advocate for youth progress toward graduation or HSE obtainment.
• Ensure youth have necessary supports such as tutoring, IEPs, 504 Plans, or accommodations.
• Expose students to post-secondary pathways (college, vocational programs) starting in 9th grade or earlier.
• Assist with post-secondary planning, applications, financial aid, and scholarships; provide college persistence coaching.
• Conduct career exploration and help youth select career development experiences aligned with interests and academic background.
• Work with Career Development Specialists to identify long-term career pathways and connect youth to workforce programs or internships.
• Ensure youth coordinate with Housing Specialists to submit housing applications by age 19; assist with housing visits, moving, and independent living skills (budgeting, banking, landlord advocacy).
• Facilitate monthly peer groups and PYA workshops on independent living skills.
• Maintain accurate case records and data, including school/home/community visits and progress notes in Connections and Care4.
• Promote and model the 7 Sanctuary Model commitments and SELF Model to create a trauma-informed culture.
• Attend agency, ACS, and NYC DOE trainings as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; two years of experience working with at-risk youth or youth involved in the child welfare system preferred.
• Knowledge of NYC Department of Education, college application processes, and NYCHA application processes.
• Experience providing 1:1 support to youth in care.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in team settings.
• Excellent written and communication skills; strong time-management and organizational skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot, advocate, and navigate complex systems with limited clear pathways.
• Open to using data to inform decision-making; ability to build relationships with external partners.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and using Motivational Interviewing and trauma-informed techniques.
• Ability to facilitate therapeutic peer groups and work from a strength-based and youth & family development perspective.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
