About the role

Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the well-being of children, youth, families, and individuals with developmental disabilities. Our staff of over 500 provides a range of services including prevention, foster care, residential treatment, adoption, medical and mental health services, and programs for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire and maintain relationships with up to 15 young people
  • Provide ongoing social and emotional support to the youth on your caseload
  • Work 1:1 with young people to develop individualized academic and career development goals based on their interests and strengths
  • Connect young people to quality schools, programs, resources, and opportunities aligned with their goals
  • Help young people persist in these settings, navigate challenges, celebrate successes, and plan for the next step on their journey
  • Collaborate with Case Planners, Tutors, Specialists, and foster/birth parents to help youth achieve their goals and ensure their overall well-being
  • Ensure young people are attending school and have the necessary supports and resources to be successful, such as tutoring, IEPs, 504 Plans, or other special accommodations
  • Expose students to post-secondary pathways, assist with post-secondary planning, and connect students to financial aid, funding, and scholarships
  • Provide college persistence coaching and ensure students receive all the financial and academic supports they need to succeed each semester
  • Facilitate career exploration activities and assist young people in selecting career development experiences that align with their interests and academic situation
  • Connect young people to workforce development programs, vocational programs, and job readiness/internship programs
  • Ensure young people who are aging out have access to and maintain stable, affordable housing and build independent living skills
  • Support young people in obtaining working papers, if needed
  • Facilitate therapeutic peer groups

Qualifications

  • Qualified applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of experience working with at-risk or system-involved young people, or an Associate degree and five years of experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time-management, organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Ability to troubleshoot, advocate, and navigate obstacles where there is not always a clear-cut pathway
  • Open to learning how to use and interpret data to inform decision-making
  • Ability to effectively collaborate in team settings and build relationships with external partners
  • Experience using Motivational Interviewing techniques and trauma-informed techniques
  • Knowledgeable about youth resources and services
  • Competence in planning, organizing, scheduling, case documentation, and strong oral and written communication abilities
  • Some experience in public relations is preferable

Pay

The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $60,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Schedule

The position is full-time and requires travel to all locations to serve this population.
