About the role

Join Utah Valley University's nationally recognized School of Aviation Sciences in one of two tenure-track faculty positions beginning January 2027. Help prepare the next generation of aviation professionals in a student-centered, teaching-focused environment. Since 1988, the School has educated thousands of aviation professionals and offers innovative bachelor's degree programs in Professional Pilot and Aviation Management.

Responsibilities

• Develop and teach undergraduate aviation courses in a student-centered learning environment.
• Engage in scholarly activities and/or creative works that support the missions of the university, department, and aviation profession.
• Participate in community outreach, industry partnerships, and curriculum development to align academic programs with workforce and industry needs.
• Teach courses in a variety of formats, which may include day, evening, weekend, online, blended, and off-campus instruction.
• Contribute to UVU's strong culture of teaching excellence by creating engaging learning experiences that help students achieve their educational goals.

Requirements

• Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Aviation or a related field to the coursework being taught.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in an Aviation-related field from a regionally accredited institution.
• Higher education experience with online teaching experience.

Knowledge

• Principles and methodology of adult teaching techniques.
• Current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) policies, regulations, and procedures as related to best practices in industry.
• Quantitative and qualitative data analysis and research methodology.
• Subject matter and course content.
• Instructional strategies and techniques in upper and lower division courses.
• Student management, motivation, and evaluation of (peer and self) instruction.
• Program and curriculum development and evaluation.
• Current trends in education, such as engaged learning and service learning, learning technologies (e.g., digital technologies for classroom management and distance education), public presenting, and report and grant writing.

Skills

• Recruiting, interviewing, and placement of students.
• Assisting counselors and other department heads in maintaining an effective program.
• Proven skills as an accomplished teacher or trainer.

• Develop curriculum and teach design courses.

• Teach college/university level aviation courses with the knowledge and skill to encourage a high degree of interactivity with students and department staff using a wide variety of methodologies.
• Manage and prioritize tasks.
• Work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from various ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.
