Assistant Professor, Tenure Track, Aerospace Engineering
About the role
The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Baylor University seeks to fill a tenure track position in Aerospace Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor to start on August 1, 2027. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining an externally sponsored research program, undergraduate and graduate teaching, course and curriculum development, and professional service.
This position is open to candidates in engineering with teaching and research expertise in either astronautics or aeronautics. On the astronautics side, this includes but is not limited to space propulsion systems, human space flight and space exploration, space environments, orbital mechanics, space autonomy, and spacecraft design. On the aeronautics side, this includes but is not limited to CFD, aerodynamics, aircraft propulsion, sustainable aviation, advanced air mobility, and hypersonics.
As of the fall semester of 2026, the Department of Mechanical Engineering launched a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering program. The candidate selected for the position will be expected to develop and maintain a strong, funded research program while assisting in delivering the new program.

Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- an earned doctorate in aerospace engineering or a closely related field
- outstanding communication skills
- a commitment to teaching excellence in areas relevant to the position and, for candidates with prior teaching experience, a record of successful teaching
- demonstrated potential for research achievement in areas relevant to the position
