Responsibilities
- Provides high quality instruction in field of expertise, ensuring students meet course outcomes.
- Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
- Selects and obtains materials and supplies, including textbooks and laboratory equipment.
- Prepares course materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
- Identifies specialized materials for outside reading assignments.
- Initiates, facilitates, and moderates classroom discussions.
- Supervises laboratory sessions.
- Provides students course-related experiences outside the classroom if applicable.
- Assists students who need extra help with their coursework outside of class.
- Maintains student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
- Evaluates and grades students' class work, laboratory and clinic work, assignments, and/or papers.
- Compiles, administers, and grades examinations, or assigns this work to others.
- Maintains regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
- Advises students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues.
- Acts as advisor to student organizations, ensuring adherence to college and university policies and procedures.
- Provides clinical instruction to optometry students and residents to be competent optometric professionals.
- Affords assessments of clinical education needs and patient care needs using a variety of methods.
- Coordinates continuation of patient care within NSU Health and with area eye care and healthcare clinics, hospitals, and facilities.
- Maintains a clinical practice license and assumes patient care responsibilities while ensuring adherence to HIPAA, compliance, and standards of practice guidelines and policies.
- Conducts research and/or scholarly activity in a particular field of knowledge and publishes findings in professional journals, books, or electronic media.
- Writes and/or participates in grant proposals to procure external research funding.
- Reviews papers for publication in journals.
- Supervises undergraduate or graduate teaching, internship, and research work if applicable.
- Participates in campus and community events, such as giving presentations to the public.
- Actively identifies opportunities and provides service relating to fields of expertise and the profession for the benefit of internal and external communities.
- Participates in college committees, task force activities, and events.
- Collaborates with staff and colleagues to address teaching and research issues, and to improve students' learning experiences.
- Serves on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
- Serves on student recruitment, registration, and placement activities.
- Mentors junior and adjunct faculty members.
- Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
- Completes special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Comprehensive knowledge of the information and skills needed to diagnose, manage, and treat ocular injuries, eye diseases, and the visual system.
- General knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
- Thorough knowledge of English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Qualifications
- Required Education: Doctoral Degree (For Professor ranks) or M.S./M.A. (For Instructor rank)
- Required Experience: Professional doctoral-level teaching experience or have residency training or equivalent.
