Responsibilities

  • Teaches high quality instruction in field of expertise, ensuring students meet course outcomes.
  • Selects and obtains materials and supplies, such as textbooks and laboratory equipment.
  • Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
  • Assesses clinical education needs and patient and client teaching needs using a variety of methods.
  • Demonstrates patient care in clinical units.
  • Supervises resident clinical education and emergency schedule.
  • Serves as liaison between faculty, college administration, and residents.
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities and implements changes to improve efficiency.
  • Develops and reviews clinic policies and procedures.
  • Plays a role in designing and coordinating quality and outcomes measures for clinical, operational, and research purposes.
  • Organizes necessary training/seminars for faculty and residents in the areas relevant to clinical dentistry as it relates to the necessary skills required by residents.
  • Maintains compliance with requirements set by NSU College of Dental Medicine.

Requirements

  • Meet minimum requirements: Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Orthodontics from CODA accredited institution. Board certified from the American Board of Orthodontics.
  • Education: DDS/DMD or foreign equivalent dentistry degree.
  • Experience: Professional doctoral-level teaching experience or minimum of three (3) years of experience working in private practice, as an Orthodontist.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of the information and contemporary research techniques used in Dentistry to diagnose and treat patients.
  • Skills: Proficient skills in speaking, instructing, reading comprehension, writing, deductive reasoning, critical thinking, problem sensitivity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, speech clarity, fluency of ideas, oral expression, and physical requirements.
  • Abilities: Proficient skills in applying general rules to specific problems, combining pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions, identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop/evaluate options and implement solutions, and identifying process improvement opportunities and implementing changes to improve efficiency.

Schedule

The schedule may involve working days and/or overnight shifts, and may require working nights or weekends.

Other Assigned Duties

  • Collaborates with staff and colleagues to address teaching and research issues, and to improve students' learning experiences.
  • Serves on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
  • Participates in student recruitment, registration, and placement activities.
  • Mentors junior and adjunct faculty members.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
  • Completes projects as required.

Job Requirements

  • Required Education: DDS/DMD or foreign equivalent dentistry degree.
  • Required Experience: Professional doctoral-level teaching experience or minimum of three (3) years of experience working in private practice, as an Orthodontist.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional teaching experience for Assistant Professor rank.
  • Scholarly contributions to the university, higher education, or one's academic area(s) of specialization for Associate Professor rank.
  • Significant scholarly contributions to the university, higher education, or one's academic area(s) of specialization for Professor rank.
