Faculty Associates in Legal Aspects of Interdisciplinary Forensics

About the role

The School of Interdisciplinary Forensics (SIF) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for Faculty Associate positions during the 2025–2026 academic year to develop and teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the legal aspects of interdisciplinary forensics.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with instructional designers and full-time faculty to develop new interdisciplinary forensics courses, such as, but not limited to, Introduction to Law and Judicial Processes for Interdisciplinary Forensic Sciences; Legal Reasoning and Principles for Interdisciplinary Forensic Sciences; Principles of Criminal Legal Liability for Interdisciplinary Forensic Sciences; Principles of Civil Legal Liability for Interdisciplinary Forensic Sciences; and Effective Expert Testimony for Interdisciplinary Forensic Sciences.
• Teach the upper and/or lower-division courses to undergraduate students or graduate-level courses to master’s or doctoral students in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats.
• Prepare course syllabi, lectures, learning exercises, exams, and other course materials, and grade assignments and assessments.
• Maintain regular availability to students including office hours as appropriate to course modality.
• Monitor student success and regularly respond to student academic issues.

Qualifications

• Either one of the following by time of appointment:
  • An M.L.S, J.D., LL.M., or S.J.D. earned from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, by time of appointment and at least three years of experience in the practice of law, or,
  • Alternatively, one year of full-time experience as a judicial law clerk.
• An earned doctoral degree in criminology, criminal justice, psychology, political science, sociology, or a closely related field by time of appointment and at least two semesters of experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses related to courts or law.

Desired Qualifications

• An earned master’s or doctoral degree in homeland security, terrorism studies, criminology, criminal justice, psychology, political science, sociology, or a closely-related social science, in addition to an earned M.L.S, J.D., LL.M., or S.J.D. earned from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association;
• Membership in a state bar (active or inactive status);
• Three or more years of experience as a practicing attorney, preferably as a litigator;
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with students from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including first-generation college students;
• One or more semesters of teaching undergraduate courses with strong evidence of teaching effectiveness as demonstrated by one or more of the following: student evaluations, peer evaluations, annual performance evaluations, prior course syllabi, or similar evidence;
• Experience with technology/course management systems;
• And
• Demonstrated excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
