Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) seeks a Faculty Associate School Social Worker to support the holistic development of high-school students by addressing their physical, emotional, and academic needs. This role fosters a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment in collaboration with teachers, staff, and families.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized and group support to students, promoting positive behavior and assisting in skill development for academic and personal success.
- Manage the school’s trusted adult system and mentoring programs for all students.
- Serve as an advocate for students and families, identifying and sharing community resources.
- Collaborate with the local school district’s HAT Officer to address homelessness, attendance, and truancy needs.
- Participate as a key member of teams such as MTSS, PBIS, Attendance, and 504.
- Coordinate with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions at local, state, and federal levels.
- Assist teachers and staff in identifying and implementing strategies to address behavioral concerns in the classroom.
- Support students with personal, social, and academic development, including goal-setting and portfolio completion.
- Address attendance issues by working directly with families and monitoring student attendance.
- Establish and facilitate programs to assist students when behavior interferes with academic achievement or college/career readiness.
- Provide guidance, resources, and assistance to students and families in preparation for college attendance.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to national and state standards for school social workers.
- Serve as the resident expert in the content area and share expertise with colleagues.
- Maintain professionalism and adhere to professional responsibilities as a faculty associate and SIUE employee.
- Staff are expected to be in their classroom by 7:30 AM and remain until 3:30 PM.
Requirements
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Social Work Endorsement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work.
- Appropriate certification as required by the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Cover letter, resume, and transcripts required for application.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Social Work.
- 2+ years of high school experience.
- Experience with master scheduling and electronic student databases.
- Successful experience working with teenagers at risk from disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of the PACE framework.
