FACTS/HVDC Equipment Specialist Sr - Consultant
Job Summary
Responsible for specialized and advanced, independent work involved in planning, testing, receiving, storing, assembling, adjustment and repair of Station equipment such as: power transformer's, reactor's, current transformer's, switches', circuit breaker's, circuit switcher's, potential device's, regulator's, power cable's, oil, paint, and all associated accessories.
Job Description
- Commissioning: AEP FACTS employees serve a key role during new projects assisting with the following: specification development, technical bid review/evaluation, design review, approve prints and other vendor documents, and commissioning the equipment in the field with support from local TFS.
- Operation and Maintenance: FACTS employees are responsible for assisting local TFS crews in conducting preventative and corrective maintenance. This includes completing the annual work plan maintenance as well as field troubleshooting. This position will serve as one of the FACTS equipment specialist in the Western AEP footprint. Supporting FACTS devices in and around the Vernon area.
- Essential Job Functions:
- Cooking/Scheduling the annual FACTS maintenance work plan.
- Providing on-site support and assistance necessary for the maintenance and repair of existing FACTS equipment.
- Developing maintenance plans, inspection reports, and other documentation to record the maintenance and repair activities of the FACTS fleet.
- Supporting AEP’s documentation plan and record keeping efforts as it relates to the FACTS/HVDC equipment.
- Cooking/Scheduling procurement of replacement parts and managing warranty and service contact issues with vendors.
- Providing on-site technical support and assistance necessary for the installation and commissioning of new FACTS equipment.
- Leading in the investigation and remediation of equipment failures and operating events to insure the reliability of FACTS equipment.
- Aiding in the evaluation and performance analysis of FACTS equipment.
- Serving in new FACTS project activities from project specification to final in-service operation.
- Identifying process improvement, asset renewal, and operational optimization plans for the existing FACTS devices.
- Promoting and enforcing the Company’s Accident Prevention and Safety & Health Programs.
- Demonstrating the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the Company’s Corporate Compliance Policy.
- Travel: Extensive travel is required to support the FACTS fleet, to meet with management and other stakeholders, to provide training to remotely located personnel (such as a dispatch center), and to meet with vendors. International travel may be required in order to work with overseas vendors.

$98,993 - $158,383 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education requirements are listed below: Associate degree in electrical/mechanical/industrial maintenance technology or equivalent education and/or experience. Equivalent education and experience is limited to military training and work experience of technical/technician nature (such as aviation and nuclear instrumentation technician) OR recent experience (within last 6 months) as a Station Electrician or equivalent job title with another electric utility or contractor. Work Experience requirement listed below: Work experience should include a minimum of 5 years' in Station or Protection & Control related activities. A good working knowledge of PC's and various types of test equipment is required. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Physical demand level is Heavy Compensation Data Compensation Grade: SP20-005 Compensation Range: $98,993.00 - $128,688.00 The Physical Demand Level for this job is: H – Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
