Facility Operator
Position Overview
Under close supervision, performs the day-to-day duties associated with the operation of a water or wastewater facility. Has working knowledge of required procedures, equipment and operating standards and is able to resolve minor routine problems. Reports to the Facility Operations Supervisor and requires guidance to operate the facility.
Essential Job Functions
- Water Treatment Plant:
- Controls treatment plant machines and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption.
- Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, valves to regulate flow.
- Admits specified amounts of chemicals.
- Maintains controls to regulate flow, pressure, and distribution of water.
- Repairs and lubricates machines and equipment using hand tools / power tools.
- Tests water samples.
- Records data.
- Wastewater Treatment Plant:
- Performs tasks related to wastewater treatment operations.
Education and Experience Requirements
- High School or GED
- Minimum “C” Water and “C” Wastewater Certificates issued by the TCEQP
- Possess and maintain valid driver’s license and good driving record

- Strong ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
- Have a mechanical background and skills maintaining mechanical systems and tools
- Must be a team player committed to working in a quality environment
- On a daily basis, requires the ability to read, write, compile, and analyze data and reports
- Able to express self logically and concisely in both oral and written form
- Able to maintain regular and predictable attendance
- Be safety and environmentally conscious and follow all required safety and environmental procedures
- Willing to work all shifts, including weekends, holidays, evening and 24-hour emergency on call

This position is a safety sensitive position.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, blood borne pathogens and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
