Position Summary

This position coordinates the planning, monitoring, controlling, and execution of facility projects across the assigned region within the FirstEnergy service area. Responsibilities include managing multiple project phases—programming, design, budgeting, scheduling, construction, commissioning, and close-out—with internal and external partners. The role also involves reviewing and maintaining corporate service specifications, managing multiple project deliverables, and supporting the Supervisor, Facility Operations in preventative maintenance, capital planning, and O&M budgeting. Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to all aspects of safety.
  • Coordinate the design, construction, renovation, operation, and maintenance of company facilities, including substations, using internal resources, contractors, or contracted services.
  • Provide expertise, mentoring, and coaching to team members to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Promote and ensure compliance with FirstEnergy’s Leading with Safety initiative, including Contractor Safety Guidelines.
  • Coordinate activities of FirstEnergy personnel and contractors for cost-effective, safe completion of work (new construction, expansion, renovation, preventative/corrective/break-down maintenance).
  • Create and modify specifications and manage contracts for construction, operation, and maintenance of buildings/facilities, ensuring work meets specifications and accurate billing.
  • Support the Supervisor, Facility Operations with major projects, move requests, maintenance, and planning.
  • Coordinate with the Environmental group to ensure facilities comply with environmental regulations.
  • Assist with Facilities Capital and O&M budgets.
  • Identify and analyze cost-saving and efficiency opportunities related to facility processes, procedures, and costs.
  • Build and maintain strong communication and relationships with facility occupants and leadership.
  • Assess facility conditions and identify capital and O&M projects for the next ten years.
  • Provide forward-looking perspectives on process improvements and increased efficiency.
  • Travel to off-site locations as needed and work outside regular business hours when required.

Employees hired at the III and IV levels will perform these responsibilities with greater proficiency and independence.

Qualifications

Facility Operations Specialist III:

  • A 2- or 4-year degree in Engineering, Interior Design, Architecture, Business, Finance, Construction Management, or a related field, plus 2–4 years of professional experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years of direct, related experience is required.
  • Solid understanding of documenting processes and procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Highly driven, self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to ask detailed questions.
  • Experience in process/project development, planning/analysis, and performance reporting.
  • Ability to adapt communication to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical abilities and the capacity to work under pressure while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships at all organizational levels.

Facility Operations Specialist IV:

  • All qualifications for the III level, plus a minimum of 5 years of related work experience or current role as an Advanced Technical Specialist.
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 7 years of direct, related experience is required.
