Facility Operations Assistant

About the Role

Assist the facility operations supervisor in ensuring the building(s), equipment, and utilities are maintained in good working order and facility grounds are properly maintained in accordance with facility policies. Facility Operations Staff are considered critical to the operation and security of the district in all conditions and are expected to report for duty as usual during emergency weather closures. Flexibility to work varied hours and schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lock and/or unlock the facility daily.
  • Perform regular building maintenance and repairs in areas such as painting and drywall, floor and ceiling tiles, doors, locks, closers, minor plumbing and fixtures, partitions, lamp replacement, and roof leaks.
  • Serve as liaison between plant operations and staff, faculty, students, and community to perform customer service duties, including temperature adjustments, moving district-owned furniture, loading/unloading heavy boxes, and assisting with deliveries.
  • Set up for special events and provide customer service, including table/chair configuration, assisting with transfers of packages, boxes, and equipment, and cleaning if contractors fail to arrive.
  • Prepare areas for painting, make necessary repairs, rearrange furniture, clean baseboards for masking tape adhesion, match paint, paint, and clean up.
  • Maintain assigned areas, ensuring lights, custodial performance, special customer service setups, and general maintenance are addressed to keep areas ready for classes at all times.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks for the campus, including repairing/replacing lights, door preventive maintenance, meter readings (electric, water, and gas), swimming pool tests, receiving deliveries, stockroom deliveries, and work requests.
  • Safeguard the security of the building(s) during evening, weekend, or holiday work by locking/unlocking the facility to ensure proper access and security.
  • Perform safety and security checks of doors during daily rounds and report infractions to the Facility Plant Operations Manager, Collin Police Officer on duty, and/or the Director of Facilities Operations.
  • Receive and complete written work orders or verbal instructions from supervisors, including minor drywall repair and painting.
  • Operate gas/electric-powered cleaning equipment such as sweepers, blowers, industrial polishers, and power washers as needed.
  • Remove bulk trash/recycle materials to appropriate containers/exterior dumpsters and perform light cleaning as needed.
  • Operate a two-way radio for communication and may be required to drive a company vehicle.
  • Supervise contract custodial workers to maintain facility cleanliness as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to maintain standards in accordance with College policies, procedures, and Core Values.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • One (1) year of experience required; two (2) years of experience with one (1) year of commercial experience preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License required.

  • Ability to read and understand work orders and delivery tickets.

Physical Demands

  • Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Typical tasks include talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking, repetitive motions, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
  • May be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, and workspace restrictions.
  • Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards; majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.
  • Frequent physical effort required.

Pay

Compensation is determined based on experience. Hiring range: $33,344.00 – $41,680.00.

Schedule

Full-time. Flexibility to work varied hours and schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

This position is security-sensitive; candidates will be subject to a criminal background check. Individuals hired may be required to drive a company vehicle; a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) will be run during the contingent offer stage and annually/bi-annually for the duration of employment.
