Duties
- Have working knowledge of the operation of a variety of self-propelled heavy equipment such as cars, trucks, construction equipment and riding mowers.
- May operate non-self-propelled machines.
- Basic knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of assigned equipment.
- Basic knowledge of the routine repair and maintenance work needed for equipment.
- Able to use and operate a variety of hand and power tools.
- Able to operate assigned machine in a safe and effective manner.
- Able to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
- Able to perform routine repairs and maintenance on equipment.
- Able to perform medium to heavy physical labor based on priorities set by others and the abilities of individual crew members.
- Orally instruct crew members in the activities and tasks to be performed and answer questions concerning work procedures.
- Provide and explain simple written guidelines for work if they are available.
- Personally observe work in progress and that which is completed to ensure adherence to instructions, guidelines, and schedules.
- Keep written records of work performed and materials and labor used.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade.
- When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.
Additional Comments
- Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
- Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
- Must be able to work in remote areas.
- Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
