About the role
The Bureau of Wastewater Treatment (BWT) within the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks a Facility Manager to oversee operations at one or more wastewater treatment plants. DEP manages the city's water and wastewater systems, ensuring high-quality drinking water and environmental protection.
Responsibilities
- Supervise civil service staff to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Administer each plant's expense budget, including energy, chemicals, overtime, parts inventory, and contract services
- Establish productivity expectations for staff
- Provide technical guidance on specific process operations
- Attend meetings with regulatory authorities, elected officials, labor representatives, the community, and environmental groups
- Plan and oversee daily work activities using a CMMS to ensure asset reliability
- Hire, promote, and discipline employees at assigned locations
- Be on 24-hour call and travel between assigned plants as necessary
Requirements
- A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer
- Six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or plan examining work
- At least two (2) years of experience in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity

Salary range: $83,718.00 – $223,299.00

Schedule
Rotating shifts, 24-hour call availability, and travel between assigned plants as necessary.
