New Horizon Academy is seeking a full-time Facilities Technician to support day-to-day facility-related issues for assigned schools in the Des Moines, Iowa, Omaha, Nebraska, and Kansas City, Kansas markets. This position requires monthly overnight travel to support the Omaha and Kansas City schools.

About the Role

The Facility Technician will work directly with operations leadership, schools, vendor management, and procurement to ensure the overall integrity, operational functionality, aesthetics, and safety of facilities. This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and coordinate routine maintenance and periodic preventive maintenance to keep schools in excellent condition.
  • Communicate with school staff about project schedules and their impact on daily activities.
  • Ensure assigned schools comply with childcare licensing, health department, and local building code requirements.
  • Complete light plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and painting projects to repair and maintain building systems.
  • Coordinate outside vendor work, including planning, assigning, and supervising service providers for advanced technical work (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing, roofing, concrete work).
  • Monitor quality, cost, and schedule of vendor services.
  • Work with the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor to gain approval for work proposals and ensure prompt payment of invoices.
  • Maintain a company vehicle and coordinate repairs with the Fleet Manager.
  • Ensure facility safety for children and staff, following all safety guidelines and responding quickly in emergencies.
  • Manage online work order requests and maintain a clean work environment, keeping tools and equipment out of reach of children.
  • Attend regular Facilities & Construction meetings and follow up on action items.
  • Coordinate testing and building inspections with the Facilities and Construction Vendor Manager.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass the Applicant Background Study required by the Department of Human Services.
  • Documentation of U.S. citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Associates Degree, College Diploma, or equivalent experience in a relevant field (preferred).
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from a standing position or 30-40 lbs. while climbing a ladder or lifting above the shoulders.
  • Ability to climb onto roofs for routine maintenance, bend over, and crawl on hands and knees.
  • Ability to stand for 8 hours per day.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
